The Story Behind North Tail

How many pieces of gear has your dog failed?
Mine broke two leashes, a collar, and a harness.

This is one of the moments that pushed me to change how I see dog gear.

I was hiking alone in the forest with my reactive dog.
She saw something. Pulled.
The leash snapped instantly.

She ran straight toward what looked like a small cliff.

My heart dropped.
There was a river down there.

Everything happened so fast.
I rushed to the edge and, luckily, she hadn’t fallen all the way down.

But if she had gone just a few feet further, the creek might have taken her.

After a few close calls like this, I realized I couldn’t keep risking it.
I needed something I could trust.

That fear pushed me to start researching.
I needed gear that would not fail when it mattered most.

That is when I discovered climbing rope. The kind used to save people’s lives during falls.
I thought, this is it.
If it can hold a human off a cliff, it can hold my dog.

But then I hit a wall.
Almost no one in Canada was making real climbing rope dog gear at the time.
There were a few small shops, but nothing recognizable or easy to access.
Meanwhile, I found way more options in Europe, in the US, and beyond.

So I thought, if it does not exist here, why not make it myself?

That idea became a mission.

Soon I realized I was not alone.
Other dog parents in Canada had been through similar gear failures and close calls.

That is how North Tail was born.

Everything in my shop is built from struggle. Mine and yours.

North Tail is for the dog parents who have had to leap off a cliff.
Who have cried into fur after a close call.
Who want peace of mind without compromise.
